Shroyer, Nelson and Powell Punch Their Tickets

Headed to Augusta National come April

(Edina, MN) Three Wisconsin junior golfers punched their tickets to the ultimate stage -- The Drive Chip and Putt National Championship at Augusta National come April 2020.

96 golfers competed across eight age/gender divisions at the Drive, Chip and Putt Regional at Interlachen CC on September 28. The Regional level is the last qualifying stage en route to Augusta National for the finals. Up to that point, qualifiers moved through local and sub-regional stages competing in the same format -- accumulating points in the drive, chip and putt skills. Mitchell Shroyer (Middleton, Wis.) captured first place honors in the Boys 7-9 age division and was the first Wisconsin junior golfer to punch his ticket after tallying 99 points. His score of 47 points in the Chip skill gave him a large edge over the other eleven competitors.

McKenna Nelson (Beaver Dam, Wis.) was no stranger to the Regional stage after qualifying several times before. Nelson finished runner-up by just one point in 2017 at Interlachen, but her 135 points total earned her first place by a whopping 34 points in the Girls 10-11 division. Her putting score of 65 propelled her to the top.

Ashleyjen Powell (Appleton, Wis.) took home first place in the Girls 14-15 division after accumulating 143 points. Powell improved from skill to skill--ending with a nearly perfect putting score of 70 points. Her solid short game performance edged out the runner-up by a narrow margin.

They will join the 77 other National Finalists on Sunday, April 5, 2020 --the week of The Masters Tournament and put their skills to the test once again. The finals are aired live on the Golf Channel starting at 7am/8am EST.
