On September 10th, 80 junior golfers took the stage at Hazeltine National with their eyes on the prize--qualifying for the Drive, Chip and Putt Finals next Spring during the Masters at Augusta National.
Kaeden Nomm conquered the home of the upcoming 2016 Ryder Cup by winning the 12-13 year old Age Division. At the end of the competition, he was in a tie with Charlie Leonhart from Minnesota with 122 points. The tiebreaker is based on your overall putting score, and Nomm's 55 points bettered Leonhart's 35.
Nomm advanced through several qualifying competitions to get to this stage. He placed 2nd in his age division SentryWorld's local qualifier--earning a spot to the Sub-Regional qualifier at University Ridge on August 6th. At URidge, the top two finishers in each age category advance to the Regional qualifier at Hazeltine National. From that point, only one competitor moves on to the coveted prize--putting his or her skills to the test against kids from all over the country at one of golf's premier backdrops--the 18th hole at Augusta National. Kaeden got the job done! The event will be televised on the Golf Channel on April 2nd, 2017--the Sunday before the Masters Tournament begins.
In January 2016, registration for Drive, Chip and Putt local qualifiers began throughout the country. In Wisconsin, the Wisconsin PGA administered six local qualifying sites in addition to a Sub-Regional qualifier. The sites included: Edgewood, Thornberry Creek, The Legend at Merrill Hills, The Legend at Bergamont, SentryWorld, Rolling Meadows, and University Ridge. The host professionals at these sites commit to promoting this event to their local communities and are instrumental to the success of Drive, Chip and Putt. The WPGA Junior Foundation thanks you for your committment to grow the game. There were over 1000 juniors participating in #DCP this year in Wisconsin alone, with just over 33,000 competing nationally. For more information about the event, visit www.drivechipandputt.com.
2017 sites will be released in early January of next year. See you all next year!
